Shabbat at Hillel is unique to the SDSU community. We aim to provide a meaningful and intimate Shabbat experience for students. Our Shabbat programming is made up of alternating weekly in-house services and dinners and Student Hosted Shabbat Potlucks. Check the calendar for all dates.
Hillel Hosted Shabbat — Student led services begin at 7pm and alternate between a vibrant group of student leaders. During each service students are also given the opportunity to offer up some food for thought, or a Drash, to the community. Services are followed by a free Kosher meal at 8:15pm. The communal meal provides a great environment for students to create new meaningful Shabbat experiences.
Senior Shabbat — The last Hillel Hosted Shabbat of each semester is reserved as Senior Shabbat. This is a wonderful opportunity to honor the seniors in our community who are graduating and embarking upon the next step in their lives.
Friends & Family Shabbat – Shabbat at Hillel is always open to anyone, but once a year, we invite friends and family of the students and community to join us for a special Shabbat.
Potluck Home Shabbat — Hillel feels strongly about helping students create their own Jewish experiences. Potluck Home Shabbat does just that! In between our Hillel Hosted Shabbat weeks, students may host a potluck Shabbat meal in their home. Meals are Kosher style, and unique to the host.
Other Shabbat opportunities — From time to time their are opportunities to learn to bake Challah, cook Shabbat dinner, and have a Havdallah service to close out Shabbat.
